Note from me... Teri...
I’m the parent of a sensitive, beautiful daughter who struggled deeply with her mental health throughout her teen and early years. We faced things I never imagined: self-harm, suicide attempts, and long stretches of fear and helplessness. There were times when I didn’t know if she’d make it and I didn’t know if I would either.
We somehow came through moments that brought me to my knees. I was desperate to help but what I learned, slowly and painfully, was that fixing wasn’t the answer. In the middle of that chaos, I searched for anything that could help. But what I needed most wasn’t another opinion or expert.
SAFE Practice™ grew from that lived experience. It’s what helped me come back to myself, so I could meet her with compassion instead of panic.
I created this guide for parents like you and I, who are in the thick of it - and who need a place to land.
You're not alone here and you don't have to do this perfectly. You just have to stay.
